Councillors have unanimously back a Labour motion supporting our Armed Forces and Veterans.

At Wednesday’s full council meeting – the final full council meeting of this municipal year before May’s all out elections – the Council’s Armed Forces Champion and Windle ward councillor Lynn Clarke brought a motion calling the the government to enshrine the Armed Forces Covenant into law.

Labour supports our Armed Forces and Veterans. We’re proud our council is a Gold Award holder under Defence Employer Recognition Scheme, highlighting those employers leading the way in employment of veterans and reservists.

Cllr Lynn Clarke says: “It was an honour it was for me to Second and speak on the Vote of Thanks to our brilliant outgoing Mayor of St.Helens, Councillor Sue Murphy and to Second and speak on the Motion proposed by Councillor David Baines on the Hillsborough Law Now and the Real Truth Legacy Project.

As Armed Forces Champion, I was proud to Propose a motion on the new Armed Forces Act, which resolved to continue the campaign with Forces Charities to see the Government strengthen the Covenant and improve vital services to veterans. My thanks go to my Labour colleague Cllr Sev Gomez-Aspron for Seconding and to colleagues across the Chamber floor for speaking in the debate and voting unanimously in its favour.”
